A strategic partnership

  • Creation of liaison offices

In 2004, liaison offices in Sendai and Lyon were settled, based on a 30-year strong cooperation between Tohoku University and INSA Lyon, for students and researchers exchanges.

ELyT Global succeeds in 2017 to ElyT Lab (2008) with a more wide-ranging field of collaborations between Tohoku University and Université de Lyon. Supported by the CNRS, this network of excellence in Engineering of Materials and Systems aims at answering current challenging societal stakes.

ELyT Global gathers French and Japanese researchers to work together, supports their travel expenses between both countries and organizes scientific workshops to foster exchanges and new collaborations.

  • ELyT school short programmeelytschool

Organized each year since 2009, alternatively in Lyon and Sendai, ElyT School aims at presenting the partner institutions to students from the other country, mainly Masters students, encouraging jointly-supervised Ph.D. research projects and promoting Masters double-degree programs. About 40 students participate each year to this 10-day programme which main thematic is « Energy, Environment, Safety and Engineering ».

ELyT School is also open to students from the Royal Institute of Technology KTH (Sweden), Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (China) and University of Washington (USA).

  • ELyTMaX International Joint Unit (UMI)Elyt max

Based at Tohoku University in Sendai since 2016, ElyT MaX research center is also now located at INSA Lyon since 2017.  The research conducted at ELyT MaX laboratory focuses on the behavior of materials -and the systems they form with other structures- under extreme and complex conditions (pressure, temperature, radiation, or highly corrosive environments).
